Mission
School mission Earlham College takes seriously the message it emblazons on books, brochures and pamphlets: "engagement with a changing world." Earlham's international character makes it special - so much so that the college was awarded the Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization by NAFSA: Association of International Educators. Internationalism is woven into the fabric of Earlham where classroom learning goes hand-in-hand with experiencing the diversity of the world. Earlham actively recruits students from across the United States and the world. Ten percent of Earlham's 1,200 undergraduates are international students. Students from Afghanistan and Kosovo mix easily with those from Indiana, Pennsylvania, Oregon and more than 40 other states on Earlham's tree-lined east-central Indiana campus, where diversity is celebrated. More than 70 percent of Earlham students and 60 percent of the faculty have participated in study off-campus. As a part of the College's general education program, students complete an international diversity requirement, including proficiency in a second language. More than 200 courses throughout Earlham's curriculum include international themes and content. This year Earlham was named one of America's "most international" campuses by the Institute for International Education. Earlham ranked second nationally among baccalaureate institutions in the percentage of students studying abroad.
